[strongSwan] strongSwan in a virtualized environment

We are planning to run a strongSwan installation in a virtualized environment, but the performance requirements are very strong. May be you have experiences with such an environment and you have answers to our questions.

Do you know if there are special requirements to the environment to run strongSwan in a virtualized environment?
Do you know the reduction of vpn-throughput when using a virtual network?
Do you have measurement values due to virtualized environments?
