[strongSwan] strongswan on the Creator Ci40?

I am trying to build strongswan for the Creator Ci40
(https://docs.creatordev.io/ci40/) using the openwrt-sdk following the
"Native ubuntu machine" option as described here:
https://docs.creatordev.io/ci40/iotkit/workshop-1-switchcounter/

The default 4.4.7 linux kernel appears to meet the requirements so it
should be possible to just build and install the packages.

Has anyone successfully build and used strongswan on this platform?
