[strongSwan] No outgoing DPD request

Hi,
I have a system with several tunnels and I'm trying to understand why
when a tunnel disappears form the status output no reconnection attempts
are made. I added "dpdaction=restart" to the configs and did a
"strongswan reload" but after that I don't see any DPD requests being
sent out. I do however see DPD requests from some tunnel peers coming in
and being acknowledged with a DPD_ACK.
Is there something else that needs to be done to make strongswan
re-establish a failed tunnel?
