Check out my email to this list two weeks ago.. I had problems with DNS 
in Mavericks.
Worked when I upgraded Yosemite. DNS was being set in Mac OS X ( I 
could see DNS server in
both Network preferences and also scutil --dns). Could also see them 
being set in the
strongSwan applet log output.
