[strongSwan] Current Status of High Availability Extension

According to the wiki page at https://wiki.strongswan.org/projects/strongswan/wiki/HighAvailability a high availability extension has been added to strongSwan 4.4.0.

Beneath changes to strongSwan itself it consisted of patches to the kernel and to iptables.

I would like to know which progress has been made since 2010. Are the patches included in the mainstream kernel? Are the changes in strongSwan mature and actively tested and used in real-world scenarios?
