I can't reproduce here that charon sends an invalid subnet. It might do
so when using a sourceip, but it shouldn't otherwise.

Have you tried to increase the "cfg" loglevel to 2? This should show you
what charon is actually proposing, something like:

> 15[CFG] proposing traffic selectors for us:
> 15[CFG]  192.168.1.0/24
> 15[CFG] proposing traffic selectors for other:
> 15[CFG]  172.17.144.0/20
