I think the migration from pluto to charon is covered here:

and there will be issues for some people who use the features
referenced there, although some of them are just a matter of changed
parameter names. Given it is a major upgrade I don't think it's a
maintainer's job to be responsible for every permutation of the config.
I did mention in my blog that people should make sure their bug
reports clearly state if they are using the version from a source
build or backports - as with anything in Debian, there is no
obligation on the maintainer to act on the bug reports, but I feel
that having people pool their issues in the bug reporting tool makes
it a useful resource for the wider community as well.
