[strongSwan] Strongswan in vmware

I am running Strongswan in VMware on RedHat 5.4 to connect to a cisco
ASA 5505.  When I have plutodebug set to all, I get a tunnel
established, when I have have plutodebug set to none I don't get a
tunnel established.  

ipsec statusall says that QI1 was sent and it is waiting on QR1.  Any
ideas on how the logging could be affecting this?
